East Africa · Built for Permanence

Engineering discipline, brought to technology delivery.

Oaknet Business is a premier engineering and technology firm in East Africa. We design and build mission-critical systems command centres, networks, data centres, and the enterprise software that ties them together for institutions whose operations cannot afford to fail.

We bring engineering discipline to technology delivery, and technology fluency to engineering projects. Our work begins with the client's business, not with our own technology the systems we build exist to serve operations, not to showcase solutions. The firm has grown through referral.

The thesis

Named for the oak a tree whose strength is in its roots and whose value compounds over decades.

Oaknet builds systems that are meant to last. Built for permanence.

Practice

What we do.

01

Command Centres & Control Rooms

Bespoke command and control facilities, integrated end to end with networks, security systems, and operational applications. Our largest deployments accommodate up to thirty operator positions.

02

Networks & Data Centres

Wide-area fibre, campus LANs, microwave, and Tier III data centre design and build at scales ranging from corporate estates to national backbones.

03

Custom Enterprise Software

Niche enterprise systems for organisations whose processes do not fit standard products, with straight-through integration to internal and external systems. Data analytics and visualisation at national scale.

04

Banking Transformation

Core banking deployment, integration, data migration, and digital channels including multi-country group transformations across East Africa.

Practice · Built for Permanence

What we do.

Oaknet works across five areas Infrastructure, Software, Advisory, Data & Analytics, and an emerging Applied AI practice. They are distinct in discipline but related in temperament: each calls for the same engineering posture, and each begins with the client's business rather than our own technology. Most engagements draw on more than one.

Approach · Built for Permanence

How we work, and who we work with.

Most of what defines Oaknet is not what we do, but how we do it. This is the shorter page, and the more important one.

How we work

Engineering discipline, applied to technology.

Oaknet is an engineering firm. The distinction matters because most technology firms are not. An engineering firm thinks in tolerances, sequences, dependencies, sign-offs, and commissioning disciplines borrowed from civil and electrical engineering, where the cost of carelessness is measured in collapsed structures rather than in patched releases. We apply that discipline to technology delivery, and we bring technology fluency to projects that have traditionally been managed as engineering. Our clients hire us because both halves of that sentence are true.

Our teams are small and senior. Engagements are led by engineers who have done the work before. We do not staff a project with juniors supervised at a distance; the person designing the network is the person responsible for it running on the day it goes live, and for the years afterwards.

We work end to end. Most of our engagements include the design, the build, the integration, the commissioning, and the operational handover delivered as a single accountable scope rather than as a series of contracts with seams between them. The seams are where things fail.

And we begin with the business, not the technology. We were deliberate, even in our name, about this: we are Oaknet Business, not Oaknet Solutions. A solution is something a vendor is eager to sell; a business is something a client is trying to run. Our job is the second thing. The technology is only ever the means by which a client's operation is made to work better, more reliably, and for longer.

Who we work with

Institutions whose operations matter.

Banks, government, regulated industries, and large enterprises whose systems carry consequences when they do not work. The clients tend to be large, the engagements tend to be long, and the relationships tend to outlast individual projects.

We are selective. In any given year, the firm takes on a small number of engagements. This is not a constraint we apologise for; it is the basis on which our work is done well.

Confidentiality

We do not publish client names.

The work we do core banking transformations, national infrastructure programmes, command facilities for sensitive operations, software systems supporting law enforcement is work for which discretion is part of the brief. Many of our clients chose us in part because we will not later use them as a marketing asset.

If you would like references, we are happy to provide them privately, with our clients' permission, once a conversation has begun. The absence of a portfolio on this website is not the absence of a portfolio.

Working by referral

Almost all engagements begin with an introduction.

From a current or former client, a partner, or someone in the wider professional network who has worked with us. We have grown this way deliberately and intend to continue.

If you have been referred, we would welcome a conversation. If you have not, but you believe your situation is the kind we are equipped to help with, please write to us anyway. We read everything.

Built for Permanence

Discipline, restraint, and a long view of the work.

About · Built for Permanence

An engineering and technology firm, based in Nairobi.

Oaknet has been delivering at this level of work since 2010. Cumulative engineering leadership within the firm exceeds twenty-five years.

The firm

Oaknet is organised around three internal divisions: Infrastructure, Software, and Advisory Services. Externally, the divisions are visible only as the four practice areas a client experiences Command Centres, Networks & Data Centres, Custom Enterprise Software, and Banking Transformation. The divisional structure exists to hold engineering depth in each domain; the practice structure exists to deliver to clients.

The firm's name is taken from the oak. The choice was not incidental. The work we do is meant to outlast the cycles of technology in which it is built to compound in value over years rather than to be replaced. Built for permanence is the standard against which we measure ourselves.

Where we work

Oaknet is based in Nairobi and has delivered engagements across East Africa. The geography is a function of where our clients operate; we follow the work.

Partners

Oaknet holds accredited and working partnerships with the manufacturers whose technology underpins the work. The list is deliberate. At the scale we operate, the right tool for each layer of the stack matters more than allegiance to any single vendor.

Leadership

Oaknet is led by a small group of senior engineers. Leadership biographies are provided to prospective clients on request, alongside the references and credentials appropriate to the engagement under discussion.

We do not publish them here because the names of our leadership do not, on their own, tell you anything about the firm that matters to a decision you might be making about engaging us.
